Hi there

Ford use to put a speed sensor in the trans ,, but then they went to a speed sensor mounted in the rear end housing ,, in the center of the rear end is what we call the pumpkin ,, the thing shaped like , well a pumpkin ,,, and on the very top of that id the speed sensor ,, held in place by one bolt ---see below

graphic

so , the speed sensor in not it the transmission , but on top of the rear end housing ..

any more info , just ask , we can go back and forth on this page

what is the sensor the part store is trying to sell me? it has a two prong connecter and then an opening for a cable

what you are describing to me is the old type of speed sensor mounted to the transmission , but you truck does not have this ,, there is no speedometer cable on your truck to go into this ,, your speedo does not work on a cable ,, it works off an input from the speed sensor on the rear end pumpkin

auto parts stores dont always have the right listings for parts ,, try a Ford dealer ,,, you may pay a little more , but a least you get the right part
