2008 F350: drw 2wd with a vibration coming..tires..pinion…

Customer Question
I have a 2008 F350...
I have a 2008 F350 supercab V10 drw 2wd with a vibration coming from the rear starting at 15 mph up. The tires have been replaced and road force balanced and a new ring and pinion installed. The vibration started at about 2000miles and has not changed. I have about 19800 onthe truck now. I suspect the driveshaft, Any ideas?

After reading all the documentation on this ...is it worse with a trailer on it ???

There is no diference.

Try using a large hose clamp or zip tie with some weight to the driveshaft and see if it gets better or worse, that might help identify the driveshaft. If it changes, move the weights around the diameter of the driveshaft as well.

I tried that and it seemed to change at the lower speeds but at between 40 and 45 the vibration seems to be pulsing without the clamp and constant with.
Ford Mechanic: EMRSR, Master Certified Service Manager replied 8 years ago
Thats a pretty good indicator then, did you rotate it on the shaft and did you add weight?
Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 8 years ago
I forgot to mention that there was a place onthe front shaft near the trans that looked like a weight may have been ther but I did not see any weld marks. That is where i placed the screw part of the clamp. i did rotat the clamp but did not feel any significant change.
Ford Mechanic: EMRSR, Master Certified Service Manager replied 8 years ago
Back from dinner, put the weight at least 1/2 way back or further.

Same here.

I might mention that I have tried removing one wheel at a time until all the wheels were off the rear of truck and the vibration did not change.

Was your dealer willing to swap driveshafts ? At least try it ?
Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 8 years ago
The have focused on the tires and have not looked at the driveshaft.
Ford Mechanic: EMRSR, Master Certified Service Manager replied 8 years ago

Considering all that has been done that is where I would start.

Considering all that has been done , I would agree that is where they should have looked along time ago. On my first visit to the dealer I told them that I thought it was a u-joint but they balanced the tires. I have been doing my own repairs for 40 years on my trucks for complete engine overhauls to replacing rear ends, so I'm not without some diagnostic experience.

The service manager said he can not do anything more without getting the OK from Ford or the FSE. I will try again before going to the nuclear option.

Thanks for the time and advice.
