2000 f-150: liter engine..fuel filter on the left frame rail..highway…

Customer Question
I have a 2000 f-150...
I have a 2000 f-150 with a 5.4 liter engine. About 3 weeks ago I changed the fuel
filter on the left frame rail. About a week after that I was about to climb an incline
on the highway and went to punch it down and the truck faltered for just a second
with no responce , then took off right away. A couple miles down the road it did it again.
When I got back to town I replaced the fuel pump. I drove it for two weeks and about 500miles with only 1 more incident. Yesterday I pulled out into traffic and the pickup died again and this time it will not run. I towed the pickup home and thinking I might have a faulty pump replaced it again. Also I replaced the fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rail on the left side of the engine. 2pumps,the reulator no fix. Could it be something like speed sensor or o2 sensor? I can't afford to take it somewhere to pay a 1000.00 for a mechanic to fix.

Hello and thanks for using Just Answer.I will try my best to help you with your question.

The best and cheapest thing to do first is stop by any auto parts store and see if there are any codes in the ECU (Engine Computer). If there are any codes, post them on this page and we can go from there. With the complexity of the vehicles today, I really don't want to guess.

They will get the codes for you for free.

9 dollars, 2 hours of my time, and I drove away. Your diagnosis was right on the mark. Thank you so much.
