f350: / afe stage II intake..#8 cylinder in the exhaust manifold…

Customer Question
I have an 05 f350...
I have an 05 f350 cc srw long box w/ afe stage II intake, edge tuner w/ the probe behind the #8 cylinder in the exhaust manifold. What sustained egt's should I stay under? Also if I added a 4in. exhaust and eliminated the cat, how much cooler can I expect to run? I've seen claims of 18 extra hp and up to 200 degrees cooler. How accurate are those claims? Thanks in advance!

As long as you can keep the EGT temp under 1200*F you will have no issues.

18 hp gain with 4" exhaust is a bit high, but you can expect up to at least 10 and yes the EGT temps will be 200 to 300 degrees less.

Does that mean 1200 degrees ever or can it run 1230 for 2 minutes at a time while I am pulling a 1400 lb fifth wheel up hills? Interstate driving on the flat with winds less that 15 mph driving 75 to 80 mph the egt's are 1030 in fifth gear(automatic) but if it shifts into 6th my rpms drop to about 1750-1800 and if I pull any kind of a hill the egt's quickly become 1230. The truck has 130000mi and haven't had any problems accept a scored turbo housing.

Running at over 1200 degrees is ok for short bursts, but not for extended periods, when EGTs climb over 1200 you should back out of the throttle just enough to let them start to drop but to not lose much power.
