1987 F150: accelerator..changed the fuel filter..disconnect..blow

Customer Question
I have a 1987 F-150...
I have a 1987 F-150 that will not stay running after it is started.

It will only run if I keep my foot on the accelerator, otherwise it will idel down slowly and shut off.

I have checked the fuel rail pressure, was 55 to 60, now around 45 psi after changing the fuel pressure regulator. I have changed the fuel filter, and disconnected the return line and use 90 psi air to blow through it. Ideas?

Thanks

Don,

Thanks for the idea but it did not solve the problem.

I warmed the truck up, by keeping the engine running at 900 RPM. The temp guage was on "C" or better, half way between the "C" and the box in the temp guage. My neighbor as you suggested kept the truck running. I tapped on the IAC valve with a screw driver. No change! I unplugged the IAC valve from the harness and the engine stopped immediately.

The same situation still occurs. After the engine gets warm it will idle with no assistance from the accelerator for approximately 20 -30 seconds. The the idle will slow down and the engine will quit.

I tried to keep the engine running so that it would not stall and release the clutch. When the clutch was released the truck would lunge forward and the engine would stop running.

Thanks

Next thought please!

it still might be the idle air control valve. this controls the air getting in the engine at idle no air the engine stalls.the only other part that could cause the engine to stall after it starts is the throttle position sensor. both of these sensors control the engine when it is at an idle
