Thanks for visiting Just Answer,
Check the brake lights are they working?
Customer: replied 7 years ago.

I just went outside to check, the car shifted into gear, then I put it back in park- and it is stuck again. the brake lights seem to be coming on- its very sunny outside so hard to tell for certain. once again, the car will not shift out of park

Check the brake switch and the wiring to the brake switch.
The brake switch is behind the brake pedal.

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.

  1. Remove the BPP switch.
1 Disconnect the electrical connector.
2 Remove the self-locking pin.
3 Remove the BPP switch from the brake master cylinder push rod.

  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

ok, is this a common problem? the car has 107,000 miles. if this works do I need to get the car serviced? and if it doesnt work?
Expert:  Tim West replied 7 years ago.
If it works it's fixed. No need to have the vehicle serviced. If it does not work just let me know and we will check some other areas. This is the most common problem for this to happen.
