Changing the timing belt of a 2002 Ford Escape XLT

Resolved Question:

Is it difficult to change the timing belt of a 2002 Ford Escape? How is is done? Details? How long is the typical labor time? What is a reasonable labor rate for San Diego, CA? Should the water pump be replaced too?

Hello and Welcome to Justanswer,

My name is XXXXX XXXXX I am here to try and assist your with your question.

Your 2002 Escape dosnt run a timing belt but instead a timing chain. There is no replacement interval for replacing it as well. If the water pump isnt leaking there is no need to replace it. I can send you timing chain replacement instructions if you still need them.

This is my daughters car and I am not near it. I am not sure if it is a 6 or 4 cylinder. In the but it is an 2002 XLT. If it is a 4 cylinder does it have a belt or chain? If it has a belt when should it be changed? Should the water pump be changed too? What is th labor time for the belt, and belt plus pump? Can you send me the instructions for the belt version too?
Thanks

MG

HiCustomer

Thank you for asking your question on JustAnswer.

Yes if you have the 2.0 you do have a timing belt and in that cases I would also change the water pump.

Customer: replied 7 years ago.

Do you have instructions for the timing belt change you can share?

Approximate labor time (with water pump change)?

Expert:  Ron replied 7 years ago.

HiCustomer

Thank you for asking your question on JustAnswer.

Here it the 2.0. The 2.0 timing belt labor is 4.0 hours and the water pump is 10 hour additional labor.
