That button is to turm your overdrive in your transmisson off.If you do any towing with your escape, ford reccomends that you turn your overdrive off for better towing power. Most people under normal driving just leave the overdrive on, if you do alot of driving in hilly areas where your trans has to keep downshifting into a lower gear when you are pulling a hill you can hit the o/d button to off<a light is on, on the dash> this will give you a little more power and save your transmisson some stress by it not sifting constantly in and out of the overdrive. with the light off it will bw able to go into overdrive and if you turn off the o/d, everytime you turn off your vehicle it will reset the switch to overdrive. Thank you, jim
