I have a 2004 Explorer and the automatic door locks will not

Resolved Question:

I have a 2004 Explorer and the automatic door locks will not work with my keyless entry, they have to be locked and unlocked manually, why? The radio will not turn off even when the car is not running and the doors are open, Why?

most likely the radio not turning off when the doors are opened is due to a failed driver's door ajar switch, located in the doorlatch, and prior to replacement you can try to spray some PB Blaster into the doorlatch liberally and slam the door a few times to attempt to free the stuck switch, if that proves to no avail the switch will need to be replaced. As for the keyless entry not operating properly, first check fuse numbers 2, 16 and 22 underhood ,as well as num ber 20 inside fusebox, if fuses are good, attempt to reprogram the remote fobs using the procedure below. If reprogramming is unsuccasfull then the Ford scantool will be needed to monitor inputs to the module as well as to check for any DTC's and likely you will need to have the dealer, or a shop with the IDS scantool diagnose the concern

Remote Transmitter Programming

NOTE: All remote keyless entry (RKE) transmitters must be programmed at the same time.

NOTE: Programming (or reprogramming) of the RKE transmitters can be accomplished using a diagnostic tool or by carrying out the following steps:

  1. The vehicle must be electronically unlocked before entering program mode using the RKE transmitter, RKE keypad (if equipped) or door lock control switch while the driver door is open.
  1. Turn the key from OFF to RUN 8 times within 10 seconds, with the eighth turn ending in RUN. If the module has successfully entered program mode, it locks and then unlocks all doors.
  1. Within 20 seconds, press any button on an RKE transmitter, and the doors lock and then unlock to confirm that each RKE transmitter is programmed. Repeat this step for each RKE transmitter.
  1. If the door locks do not respond for any RKE transmitter, wait several seconds and press the button again. If the door locks still fail to respond, refer to Inspection and Verification in this section. (Make sure that no more than the maximum number of RKE transmitters are attempted to be programmed.)
  1. Exiting the programming mode is accomplished if one of the following occurs:
    • The key transitions to the OFF position.
    • 20 seconds have passed since entering programming mode or since the last RKE transmitter was programmed.
    • The maximum number of RKE transmitters have been programmed.
