Hello! They offer 2 engines for that year. Do you have the 4.0L six cylinder, or the 5.0L eight cylinder?
Customer: replied 7 years ago.

4.0 V6 and I guess what I need to know is what other years will exchange out, if any, with the 96 4.0 V6. Thank you

Go to Car-Part.com They have the most powerful locater system, you can shop by city, state or region. Best part is you can price shop, do not be afraid to offer a little less than the listed price.

I see nowhere where this site shows cross reference, please advise

Customer: replied 7 years ago.

I see nowhere on this site that you can cross reference, I just need to know if any other year than 1996 will work. All I have seen shows 1996 only

The A4LD transmission interchanges with Explorer, Ranger and Aerostar.
Customer: replied 7 years ago.

It is listed as a 4R55E for 96, A4LD is listed for earlier model and 5R55E for 97 and up

What has to be done to go from the 4R55E (4 speed ) to the 5R55E ( 5 speed ) or go to earlier years w/the A4LD. Computer switches or will they work w/o computer changes

Can you get a look at the transmission tag? I just looked in the shop manual and it lists 4 possibilities ! 4R44E, 4R55E, A4LD, 4R70W Thats the shop manual, not a parts book.graphicgraphic
