What do i need to remove the top stud from the engine block? and is it easier to do it from the top of the motor?

2 nuts of same size that came off is what I use (can't remember size)
If your arms are long enough.
I do this on a rack, so if this is DIY, you may be able to get to it

Ok thanks alot. I had one put on 3/10/2009 at B.J.maurer ford and it cost me $192.92 and it just died on me and since i bought the alt online their was no warenty on labor So you saved me a hole lot of $$$$$ on putting a new one on.

I believe there is a problem with water intrusion into the Alternator, but Ford has not recognized it yet...........
