CV joints produce a click or pop or wobble or thump and most of the time they get more agitated while hard accelerating or hard braking or turning sharp.

To rule out tires as the source just raise the vehicle and lightly hold the brakes while running it in gear. Now the tires cant be the cause if the noise is still occuring. A whine or sing or hum comes from hub bearings and other bearings.

Interesting, is that normal for a car with only 40,000 to have that kind of a problem?
I would like to say no. But since I am a ford tech I can say we work on more cars under warranty than we do out of warranty. So for a car to break prematurely is not odd for me to see. I can say however I am yet to have a axle halfshft failure on a fusion yet but many on windstars and taurus's and focuses which are the same style axle shafts you have.

Ok, thanks for the information. I will have to have this checked out. Of course the warranty ran out 4,000 miles ago so I hope it not too expensive. Have great evening.
