Sounds like you got the major vacuum leaks taken care of. Two other problems with that motor are the coil and the valve seats. The valve seats are known to come apart and damage the valve which will cause a rough idle. The coil also has been know to be bad and cause an idle problem and nothing at speed. Check the coil first, see if the spark is blue while running and see if any cylinder does not react to removing the wire.
The idle air control is what compensates for the load increase. You can try disconnecting the iac while the car is running to see if there is any change in idle. The car should stall. Here is a picture of the iac its on top of the engine at the throttle body.
I would recheck for a vacuum leak by spraying the intake with brake cleaner to see if the idle improves.
