Hi, welcome to JA.

  • Unfortunalty, there can be a number of reasons the lamp illuminates...commonly it is due to the MAF (Mass Airflow Sensor) when it follows your symotoms. You'll first need to get the codes scanned so we can get an idea of what circuit is failing. Look under your hood on the emmisions sticker, if it states "OBD II," certified than you can have the code scanned at almost any repair shop, or even rent or purchase a code reader...but if it states OBD I, than you'll need to find a specialty BMW shop in your area that can scan the codes for us. There are about 10 different sensors on this engine that can cause the lamp to illumiante cold.
