Yesterday, (ice-cold weather) my 1999 Lincoln Continental

Customer Question

Yesterday, (ice-cold weather) my 1999 Lincoln Continental heater started blowing cold air, then hot air, then cold air. I added a little coolant this morning, and the air blew hot for a while. Then went cold again. Then, with the heater running, blowing cold, the engine quickly got too hot, in just a few blocks. When I turned the heater off, the engine temp dropped right back down to normal. I'm not a car guy so will take it in, but would like to have an expert opinion on the possible problem and what to expect/ask.
