2002 Lincoln LS: Turn key to start and will do nothing, Have

Customer Question

2002 Lincoln LS: Turn key to start and will do nothing, Have full power to everything and no dimming of the head lights. Come back to the car the next day and will fire up. This issue has been occurring for the past 6 mouths. it may be up to about a week and then it wont start. it has stranded us in parking lots etc. however come back the next day it starts right up. This is not a heat related issue, this will happen at times first thing in the morning. I put a code reader on it no codes. I have tried using the key only for access to the car not using the alarm for a month still no change with the issue. I have checked battery terminals connections. When the car starts it shows no signs of slow cranking.

Hello and welcome!

My name isCustomerand I can assist you with your question.

Expert:  Amedee replied 11 months ago.

The most likley possible cause for this condition would be a faulty starter motor. They go bad intermittantly and will cause this intermittant no start condition you are experiencing. You can check for power down at the starter when this condition occurs just to confirm the starting circuit is working properly. The starter motor installed (depending on where you go) would be between $250 and $300 bucks.

Good luck and let me know if you have any further questions!

this does not sound like a starter issue, I've changed out many starters, also its my wife's car I cant ask her to check the starter with a meter when i am not around. Got any other ideas

I certainly do!

Ignition switch, PNP switch, starter relay, wiring or a bad connection can all cause this.

Oh, also a weak engine ground.

Do you have any further questions sir?

Is there anything else I can help with?
