Are you referring to the check valve in the vacuum system?

no, when we first start the car and put your foot on the brake you get a ratching sound, and little to no brakes at all. after the car runs, you now have brakes. we have replaced the brake power brake booster. can you think of anything else that we an fix????

Okay because the check valve is in the booster. The sound your describing sounds like you may have an ABS issue. Is the ABS light coming on and if so have you scanned the system to see if there are any fault codes setting?
