have 04 Lincoln Aviator that will not shift out of park sometimes, but sometimes will. brake lights all work. fuses all good.
JA: Thanks. Can you give me any more details about your issue?
Customer: some days will shift every time, then may stop, and have to manually release it at shft lock actuator. other days will not work at all, then randomly will.
JA: OK got it. Last thing — Lincoln Mechanics generally expect a deposit of about $18 to help with your type of question (you only pay if satisfied). Hello, my name is***** is a common issue on this vehicle. If the brake lights work when the issue is occurring then we can assume it is not the brake switch. Most of the time it is the brake shift control module. This is a small computer that controls this system. This is a common failure. It can also be the shift interlock solenoid on the shifter itself, but that is not as common.

can you give me the location of the brake shift control module and how to test?
Lincoln Mechanic: FixItMan, Master Technician replied 1 year ago
It is located under the center console. You can check the ground connection right next to it. The only true way to test it is with a scan tool but you can check it by testing it when the problem is occurring. If you press the brake pedal the light green wire should have power and if it does the black/pink wire should have ground. If not then replace it.

we are looking in Lincoln service manual and cannot locate part in picture
Customer reply replied 1 year ago
unless you are referring to the brake shift lock actuator (it has 6 wires going into it)
Lincoln Mechanic: FixItMan, Master Technician replied 1 year ago
Under the console?
Ask Your Own Lincoln Question
Customer reply replied 1 year ago

Lincoln Mechanic: FixItMan, Master Technician replied 1 year ago
Have you been able to test the circuit when the prob,e is occurring?

do you mean the 6 wires on the shift lock actuator?
Lincoln Mechanic: FixItMan, Master Technician replied 1 year ago
Yes. You need to see where it is losing power.

we checked wires...red has voltage with switch on, orange does with pedal pressed, black is ground, purple does with switch on, green/white does all the time, yellow is ground
Lincoln Mechanic: FixItMan, Master Technician replied 1 year ago
Hve you checked the solenoid itself.

the actuator?
Lincoln Mechanic: FixItMan, Master Technician replied 1 year ago
No, the solenoid in the shifter.

no we haven't. can you tell me how to check it?
Lincoln Mechanic: FixItMan, Master Technician replied 1 year ago
You can either check the resistance of it or apply voltage to it and make sure it is functioning.

we need to remove console, right?
Lincoln Mechanic: FixItMan, Master Technician replied 1 year ago
Yes. Or you can access the circuit from the fuse box and the module we spoke about.
Ask Your Own Lincoln Question
Customer reply replied 1 year ago
do you know which fuse it would be?
Lincoln Mechanic: FixItMan, Master Technician replied 1 year ago
Fuse 23 in the fuse box under the hood.
