Customer Question

2000 Lincoln LS. Driver side seat won't move. It is totally dead. Lumbar and electric mirrors work. Fuses f421 & f207 are OK. How do I troubleshoot?

First, do you have memory seats or just power seats?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
memory seats

Do you have a test light or digital multi meter to do a few electrical tests?
Since your 2000 Lincoln LS has memory seats, you have a Drivers Seat Module which controls the position of the seat when the memory buttons are pressed and also controls the power to the seat motors from the switch. See the diagrams below.

I have a digital multi meter and know how to use it

You will either need to check the drivers seat module for trouble codes or unbolt the drivers seat and check for power at each seat motor under the seat and move the switch through the positions and check for power at the wires. Follow the wiring diagram I posted earlier.

There are no trouble codes in the onboard computer. Looking at the diagrams you sent me the only common power connection is through the 2 fuses, which are OK. Two questions: 1. Where is the driver seat module located? 2. Without power to the seat how do I move the seat to get the mounting bolts out? Is there a procedure for this?
Expert:  A. Penland replied 1 year ago.

It is mounted under the drivers seat on the seat frame.

To get the seat out when the power function is not working is a challenge. There are no set procedures to do this because the seat can fail in a lot of positions. To get the seat mounting bolts, you will either have to use a wrench or a short handled ratchet wrench.

Have you seen this problem before? Is there a common failure cause?
Expert:  A. Penland replied 1 year ago.

Have seen the drivers seat module fail and also wiring issues to the module under the drivers seat.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Guess I'll have to get the seat out. Thanks for the help.
