Hello and welcome back to justanswer.com

You most likely have a problem with one or more ignition coil. The reason you feel this missfire at that time is that is when the coils are stressed the most. Pinpointing the cylinder will be difficult unless a Ford factory scan tool is used or at least a scan tool that had Mode 6 data. I can tell you that in most cases all 8 coils and plugs are replaced as once one goes the others are not too far behind. Also if you remove both coils covers and you see oil leaking into the coils then you should replace the valve cover gaskets along with the coils.

The misfire is only intermittant(feels like a coil high tension wire arcing to ground ..if it was an old car!).The problem appears as I reach cruising speed around 40-45 MPH. Never while on or off the throttle. No engine check light. Swapped coil packs with a friends Lincoln and installed new plugs. No change. If I disconnect anything electrical or vacuum in the EGR circuit.. The problem goes away.Of course I then get a check light. There appears to be two things in the control circuit. A sensor and a vacuum relay?.. Since the two electrical units as well as the valve are expensive.I hate to start throwing $100+ parts at it. I did try inserting a orifice restrictor in the vacuum line and it seemed to help.. I really doubt that the egr valve it's self is defective. I think it's a "control" problem..Any insight?
