Exercise Equipment Repair Questions? Ask a Technician
Hi my name is*****'m a 30 year veteran consumer electronics engineer. I'll help you today.
First, can you please tell me the model number of your Stairmaster?
Also, this may take some mechanical dexterity... Are yo fairly mechanically inclined? The units have chains, cogs, rollers etc....
Ok, can you remove the right side cover?
You will see the chain and you should be able to see the master link.
PLEASE make sure the machine is unplugged from the wall....
This won't be too difficult...
I'm here, sorry was on break
So the chain doesn't move in the conventional way, but you may be able to carefully wigglr the towel out.
If not, then the master link needs to be removed to loosen the chain
Ok, can you locate the master link?
It goes into the chain, and into the pedal arm.
To remove it you have to locate the one side of the link has has a slotted plate
There's a second master at the spring end, so which ever is easier.
Let me try and find a picture for you.
Should look similar to this...
Taking a while to send, sorry
Depending on which chain the towel is stuck in, you will have to remove one, or both chains to fix the problem. Be careful to note how the chains go back on. Take a pic first if need be.
Great, once that is removed, you will definately be able to get the towel out.

Use a medium size flat head screwdriver. Push against the edge that is open and it will pop off.
I'm going to send you a link to a youtube video (kind of cheesy but you'll get the idea), it's on a bicycle but same idea.
Also, here is a close up to help you
The link on top is what comes off.
I hope the information I supplied you with was able to solve your problem. If you would, please be sure and rate my service 3 stars or higher for my efforts. This is how I make my living. If you need any other help, please message me and I'll be glad to assist. Thank you, ~Wayde~
