Verifiedyes there is an internal battery used to provide power to the console during use. You will need to replace the board where the battery is mounted. it is located on the bottom of the unit underneath the plastic covers. In order to get to it you will need to purchase a bicycle crank puller to get the crank arms off and then you can get to it. Here is a link to get the replacement part.
You can't purchase just the batteries. Unless you can find them from an outside source. If you can access the board without removing crank arms that's great. I just think its easier to remove them.
