Where is the electrics blowing? At the circuit breaker on the unit or at the house switchboard?
Also when does it blow? When you plug it into the wall or when you turn it on or when you try to make the belt run?

I would have done exactly the same method but would have used a meter to check for the short...
It sounds like you may have a shorted motor... Sorry the news is not better .. I would try calling the manufacturer, there may be an extended warranty on the motor... If not they will be able to direct you to the nearest serice centre..
