I have a nordictrac model...

I have a nordictrac model # XXXXX
It is a flexible maplewood deck model viewpoint 8500.
It is probably about 3 years old and was working great
until about a week ago.
When it is cold and if you can get the keyboard to work, if you
start it and set it to a preprogrammed function it will work fine all the way through.
It will change speeds and raise and lower the deck etc. However a few minutes into it
if you try to use any function on the keyboard(including the fan buttons) it will make a
couple of beeps, but do nothing to change anything. Once warmed up if you pull out the magnetic safety switch it probably won't start until it cools down.
I was told by one repair company that this model does not offer the keyboard separately and since it beeps even when there's no response it might not be the keyboard itself.
Do I need to replace the entire console for big money or is it probably some simple electronic component failing somewhere in one of the printed circuit boards?
If so will it be difficult to locate the particular component?

My guess is the touchpads are going bad. When they start to go bad they will make contact with no one touching them and cause the beeping. Unfortunately to get the touchpads you have to buiy a whole new console. You can try the steps below to see if you can get it to work again:
Remove the console from the treadmill and remove the back
remove and replace the ribbon cables that run from the keypads to the control board (they are flat plastic strips that push into the board).
remove and replace all the connections on the console
reattach the console and calibrate by doing the following:
1. With the key off press the speed + and stop buttons at the same time and hold
2. place the key on and release the buttons
3. press the stop key once
4. press the speed up til it reaches 85
5. if your max speed is 10 mph then it should read about 9.8-10.2

If the keys will not work then the console is bad and would need replaced.
