I have a Pro-Form Space...

I have a Pro-Form Space Saver 500 Elliptical. When the resistance level shows a low resistance number it feels like I am trying to pedal at a very high number. In other words, when I am at the 2 speed it feels like the 8 speed. The difference between the resistance at the low speed is significant from 1 to 3 or 4, etc. where I can hardly move the pedals at the 8 speed. It never used to be like that but it sits in an outside screened gazebo in Southern California. Is there an adjustment I can make to get it so it gradually increases resistance rather than take the big jump in restance? Do I need to clean contacts or the wheel or something like that? What about the motor? I confirmed the motor does move the "C" magnet when the pedals are moving and the speeds are changed. It just seems like the adjustment is either to much versua gradual.

Verified

You can loosen the barrel nut on the adjustment for the tension and it should help the problem. Back it off so there is less tension at setting 1. Then it should gradually move up from there. If it is set too high to start it will tend to jump quickly.

There is an adjustment cable that runs to the magnet. I think it runs from the motor that adjusts the distance between the magnet and the wheel. Is this the barrel nut you are talking about? I guess I need more explanation of which nut you mean.

yes, there should be an adjustment that will loosen or tighten that cable.
