I have a kimber...

I have a kimber gold match 2,,while trying to field strip it (first time)..I removed the recoil spring then the slide stop, but my slide only came forward about a half inch and appears to be stuck ,it wont come off forward or wont backup . what is stopping it ? yes I'm new at this.
