Customer Question

I have a Model 70 with no serial number. It has a 1947 barrel. The bolt appears to be pre-war. There is no sign of the serial number been removed. What do I have?

Good evening, Is this a Winchester model 70? The serial number should be located on the right side of the receiver, just forward of the loading/ejection port. Canyou check it again? Jim
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
I have. It is not there I own 15 Model 70's currently and five of them are pre-war. There is no serial number on the action where it should be. I have dismantled the firearm looking to see if it had one elsewhere and it does not.

What exactly is stamped on the gun?
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
There is the normal Winchester trademark on the left side of the receiver. Normal markings on the barrel
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
No markings on the right side.

Guns like this, I wish that I could examine in person.
Expert:  ProShooter replied 2 years ago.
Very odd....
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
None. I am comparing it to the other Winchesters that I have. They are stamped pretty deep. Just do not see how they could hide that. I have compared it to a 1936 and a 1949. Just do not see how they could do it .. the barrel is a 1947.

Again thanks
