I found a Remington model 1882 double barrel shotgun, serial

Resolved Question:

I found a Remington model 1882 double barrel shotgun, serial #12370, in my deceased mother's house. It's in rusty shape. Is it worth much? Should it be restored?

Good evening,

Value on this model, even in rough shape could be a few hundred dollars, on up to over a thousand....it all depensds on the grade of the gun. I have listed the various values here below, the key being if you can figure out what grade of gun it really is:

Approx. 16,000 Model 1882s, possibly 1,000 Model 1883s were mfg. from 1882-88. Started with ser. no. 1,000.

I just looked it over and I believe that is Grade 4. My dad told me,as a boy, that I shouldn't try to shoot it, because of the damascus barrels. I also believe that the engraving is not finely engraved.

So assuming, it's 10-20% (worst case), what is the approx. cost to clean it up and restore it enough to be a nice wall hanging?

It's hard to put a number on it, sight unseen...could be $100 to $150 maybe....and that is a rough guess.
