I am trying to determine if it will be cheaper to live in MA

Customer Question

I am trying to determine if it will be cheaper to live in MA and pay two state tax with NY or live in NY and pay only the NY state income tax. NYC tax is not part of the calculation as the job is near Albany.
JA: The Accountant will know how to help. Is there anything else important you think the Accountant should know?

Hi. Great Question. Given that Massachusetts has a lower rate, I would pick living there. Any tax that you pay to NY, you can apply to your MA return.

Let me know if you have any questions. On a side note - if you work remotely most of the time and can establish your "office" in MA, this may help with your taxes, as well.
