Customer Question

My mother -in-law lives in Florida. She has Medicare and Medicaid and was hospitalized for hip surgery. Spent 20 days in rehab and was transferred to a nursing facility for an additional 18 days.
The nursing facility center is telling her that after 20 days her Medicaid coverage is over, and she has to pay 20% of the daily charge – totaling $1,800.
If it makes a difference, she is part of one of the managed Medicaid plans required in Florida.
Does she owe a co-pay? If not, who can she contact to get a straight answer? Thanks

Dear Friend,

Hello and welcome. Thank you for providing an opportunity to assist you.

I am afraid, that what you have been advised is correct. Managed Medicare Plans in Florida do require a co-pay.

However, a provider is not required to provide services to every recipient who requests services. A provider can limit the number of Medicaid recipients that the provider’s facility or practice serves, and accept or reject recipients according to the policies of the facility or practice. BUT PROVIDER CANNOT refuse service just on the basis of inability of the recipient to co-pay.

For any kind of help or query, you may reach out to the below contact details.

I am sure this would help.
