Well, the irs sent me a letter just yesterday telling me that I owe nearly $3800 because I am not the custodial parent of my 11 year old son. In the parenting plan it was agreed that we would claim our son every other tax year. In 2017 (my year to claim him) she filed and fled to Europe on an extended vacation. Once she got back I filed contempt against her for taking that tax year. As for the letter from the irs, it states that the "infraction" was in 2018. That year, it was determined by the court that she surrender any exemption for the next two years, 2018-2019. We hadn't had a problem with this since 2012, our divorce year. … read more
