Hello and welcome! My name is ***** ***** I am a licensed attorney and will try my best to help with your situation. There may be a slight delay in my responses as I type out an answer or reply.

.

If you mean something like would you owe her money.. then the answer is no.. Legally she is your tenant and you are her landlord under an oral month to month tenancy agreement.

.

If you give her a written 30 day notice to vacate and she doesn't, then you can evict her through the courts just like any landlord would..

.

.

thanks

To clarify, beyond written notice, are there any other steps i should tale to protect myself in this situation?

No, you aren't liable for supporting her or her children and if they are living in your home or rented dwelling, you can evict them as long as you follow the law and do so through the courts if they don't move out within that 30 days..

Okay, i don't expect any real issues from her, I just want to protect myself. I could see her son maybe doing something. if I felt the need to set up a camera or recording device to ensure nothing is damaged or stolen are there any issues with that?

Nope, this is your home and you can monitor it any way you want, as long as it is not in a private area like a bathroom, where someone has a reasonable expectation of privacy...
