Trying to find out if my unwed pregnant daughter can legally

Customer Question

Hello, trying to find out if my unwed pregnant daughter can legally leave our home when she reaches age 17.

Hi - my name is ***** ***** I'll be glad to assist.

Getting pregnant/having a child does not automatically emancipate a child (although getting married would). Thus, the parents technically could require the child to remain in the home until/unless the daughter marries or files a legal action to become emancipated.

Here's a good link you can read regarding emancipation of minors: http://family.findlaw.com/emancipation-of-minors/automatic-emancipation-of-minors.html
