away from her?

Thank you for your post. Please permit me to assist you with your concerns.
That depends on a variety of factors, including how DHS sees this minor and whether they see the minor as 'fit' or 'unfit'. If the minor tests positive for drugs, for example, DHS may take the child so as to best protect the child from an unfit parent. Likewise, if the foster family where the minor currently resides has no access or ability to maintain another child, DHS may elect to move the child temporarily to a different foster family. But as a rule DHS does not like to break apart families and children, so they may attempt to find housing for both together unless there is evidence that the 17 year old is dangerous or unfit.
