My husband and I divorced in 2007. We had been married almost 20 years and had PERS retirement as a teacher. In our divorce it was stated that I would get half of the PERS benefits upon retirement but that we needed to get a QDRO. Soon after the divorce (he sent us into bankruptcy due to gambling) his family swooped in and took him back to Maryland. We hardly had any contact after that time. I struggled financially raising our 2 boys and after a while he did comply with child support. In 2017 our youngest son was killed in a car accident and we of course can into contact at his celebration of life. At that time I could see my ex was mentally ill. I decided that this tragedy shook me and decided to follow thru with the QDRO. It took my QUDRO person 5 times to file as my ex was very evasive and wouldn't share in what manner he filed for PERS in 2007 when he lost his job.
