The most superficial layer of the cornea can get erosions because of dry spot appearing in the same site from dry eyes. It is likely that you are currently having a dry spot on the cornea causing sharp pain. Use a slightly thicker lubricating eye drop such as Refresh tears liquifilm gel , 1 drop twice a day along with lubricating eye ointment such as lacrilube eye ointment at bedtime. The corneal erosions usually heal very well within 24-48 hours especially with patching of the eye overnight with ointment. I guess the above measures are likely to give you relief soon.
In case the eye developes redness, watering or discomfort to bright light along with the severe pain, then do get your eye examined by an ophthalmologist for a closer look at the cornea. Sometimes a deeper erosion of the cornea takes longer to heal and needs prescription medicines.

Naproxen 500 mg tablet should help alleviate the pain. However it is the eye medicines which are going to be more effective in bringing the pain down. So it is better to start the eye drops as early as possible. Both the lubricating medicines are available OTC.
