I have a sensitive question regarding a family member of mine.. He's 2 years old, fell down the stairs of their deck at their home, and he hit his head on the cement. This was two Fridays ago.. his mother is concerned with financial situations and I'm asking your advice.. he is acting fine, sleeping, eating, same old normal child. however, he had a large black and blue on his head.. and a black eye. now over the week.. his other eye is now turning black and blue.. is this something to be concerned about? if so.. how concerned?

Doctor's Assistant: How long have you been dealing with this? Is there anything in particular that makes your head feel worse or better?

Not my head, my nephew.

Hello. I'm Dr Chip
Thanks for your question and I'm reviewing it.
I'll be back in a moment with and answer or a request for more information

Ask Your Own Eye Question

I'd have to say that in this case he needs to see a doctor for an exam and some x-rays

He might have a basilar skull fracture or an orbital fracture and that needs to be evaluated

Please let me know if you need any more information

This isn't something that you would suggest go unlooked at by a doctor? This is my nephew.. I'd have to take other measures because his mother said he seems fine. He's been getting nose bleeds too. but his mom says this is due to the dry winter.
Customer reply replied 8 months ago
they don't have insurance.. I think his mother is concerned for the financial burden.

Again, he needs to see a doctor for this

While those fractures often heal without any problem since I can't examine him I'm ethically obligated to say he needs at least to be examined

A walk in clinic doctor could do this

Would I be able to take him without his mother's permission? Out of concern for my nephew.

No--he'd have to have his mother with you

okay, thank you for your response. his mother won't listen to me, says he is fine. I appreciate your time.
Customer reply replied 8 months ago
he has a black eye.. but is it normal for his other eye to 'become' black and blue almost a week after the fall?

That's my concern since a basal skull fracture can do that
