I have severe dry eyes...
I have severe dry eyes; I have to use drops every two or so hours. Is there any procedure that I can undertake that would help? I had PRK surgery a few years back, but the dry eyes preceded the surgery, of which has had little impact on the development of my dry eyes. I did try Restatis but it made no difference.Thank you.

Hi,

Since you have severe dry eyes, there are some options that you can try -

- punctal plugs. The opening near the inner corner of eye, which drain tears is blocked with a plug, so that tears remain in eye and are not drained off

- taking omega 3 fatty acid in dose of 1000 mg per day for at least 3-6 months. This helps in production quality of tears by tear glands

- use of newer lubricating eye drops containing hyaluronate (high tears). This decreases dryness and smoothens the surface of cornea, which might be uneven in your case after PRK

- using lubricating eye gel like genteal eye gel along with drops to decrease the frequency of drops per day.

- tacrolimus ointments are also helpful in some cases of dryness

Hope this helps, do get back with more queries

Regards
