My Ear is killing me! It was from water that I got in it

Customer Question

My Ear is killing me! It was from water that I got in it when I took a shower today! What should I do?

I am an ENT and can help you with this.
Usually water in the ear should not cause such pain, though it can cause a blocked sensation.
You may have injured yourself trying to take the water out or it may have caused an infection.
For now, simply lie down with the ear at lower level. If there is any water still it will flow out.
Also try a step known as Valsalva Maneouver: take a deep breath, purse your lips and then take a swallow - this will force air into the ears. Do this as often as possible.
These two steps should be sufficient.
However if it persists you need to go to the ER and have this looked up.
Take care - wish you good health and a quick recovery.
