Dr. A.S. Desai :

Are you available for chat now?

Dr. A.S. Desai :

Is the lid swelling painful or tender?

Dr. A.S. Desai :

A localised lid swelling since 4 days only is most likely to be an internal hordeolum.

Customer:

it is painful and tender

Customer:

what exactly is an internal hordeolum and what should i do about it?

Dr. A.S. Desai :

An external hordeolum or stye is also an acute infection of sweat glands in the lid. It is more visible than inte4nal hordeolum.

Customer:

how does it happen?

Dr. A.S. Desai :

An internal hordeolum is an acute infection of modified sebaceous glands present in the eyellids.

Dr. A.S. Desai :

It is more often seen on those who tend to rub eyes frequently.

Customer:

how do i treat it? would you suggest going to a doctor?

Dr. A.S. Desai :

I guess it would resolve naturally within a week or so.

Customer:

is there anything i can do for the tenderness?

Dr. A.S. Desai :

Giving warm compresses for 10 minutes, thrice a day would help to relieve the symptoms.

Dr. A.S. Desai :

You can take tablet acetaminophen, 500 mg twice a day for 2 days.

Customer:

do i need a prescription for that?

Dr. A.S. Desai :

No, it is available OTC.

Customer:

alright thank you for your help!

Dr. A.S. Desai :

If symptoms do not subside or happen to worsen after 1 week, do consult your nearest doctor.
