Ask an Eye Doctor and Get an Answer ASAP
Hello, Thank you for the question.I am Dr.A.S.Desai and I look forward to assisting you .
Are you available for chat now?
I would say that a DCR surgery would be more effective if the lacrimal sac is not atrophied ( become small due to aging).
After dcr, will I feel air in my eye when blowing nose, etc?
It would feel normal as the tears would now flow through a new route created surgically into the nose.
Is intubation a "less major" surgery? DCR sounds major,
Intubation is definitely a "less major" surgery than DCR .
Silicone tubes are passed through the puncta which then pass into the lacrimal sac and then open into the nose. However these are left in place for about 3 months and then removed.
Is intubation less likely to be successful at my age?
Sometimes these might loosen or cause irritation or even be ineffective thus requiring a DCR surgery finally.
Thank you. It sounds like DCR might be the best choice. I appreciate the information.
You are most welcome. I wish the very best for your forthcoming surgery. Good luck and take care.
