I've been experiencing a mystery illness for about 2 or 3

This answer was rated:

I've been experiencing a mystery illness for about 2 or 3 weeks, with several strange symptoms (at least they are unusual for me). The symptoms are heartburn pretty regularly, though seems to be going away now, clogged ears, feeling very jittery, eyes feel heavy and it's difficult to focus, shortness of breath (not constant, not severe, and not related to activity), tingling sensation, (not numbness) that seems to have gone away now, heavy feeling in chest, which again, seems to be improving. I'm a 45 yr. old female, who quit smoking 3 days ago, due in part to this strange feeling and persistent condition. Any ideas about what might be causing ALL of these symptoms seemingly out of the blue? I took tums yesterday for the first time, which didn't seem to do anything YESTERDAY, but the heartburn is almost gone today. I also took Sinex (1 cap) yesterday, 1 cap this morning, and one more this evening. This seems to help the pressure in my ears, but not much else. Thank you.
Doctor DanB : Hello and thanks for your question. Are you available to chat?
Doctor DanB : Do you have any history of generalized anxiety? Do you have any other medical problems such as diabetes, high blood pressure, thyroid problems, or heart problems?

yes, I can chat, and no, I have none of the conditions you mentioned...or I am not aware of any.

Doctor DanB : I'm here. Thank you for that answer. Has there been any numbness around your lips?

Doctor DanB : I suspect that your symptoms may be due to a thyroid dysfunction. Have you ever had your thyroid levels tested?

no, I haven't.

Would a thyroid problem explain all or most of these symptoms?

Doctor DanB : It would explain most of these symptoms. The clogged ears, maybe not so much. But the majority of these symptoms could be explained by a thyroid dysfunction.

I have been experiencing what I think is pre menopausal symptoms as well, with a lot of trouble sleeping...waking up with fast heartbeat...this has been happening for many months, and I didn't connect the two conditions...could it all be related to a thyroid issue?

and if so, which kind of physician should I see to have my levels checked?

Doctor DanB : Yes, absolutely this could be related to thyroid dysfunction.

Thank you for your answers

Doctor DanB : Going to see your family or primary care doctor is a very acceptable place to start. An endocrinologist is a specialist in this dysfunction but I would start with your primary care doctor.
Doctor DanB : Do you have any other questions about this?

No, other than is it something I should do right away, as in it's urgent, or can it wait until I get an appt.?

Thank you again.

Doctor DanB : My pleasure. It isn't urgent that you get this done as soon as possible, but I would work on getting an appointment right away. That way you can get in relatively soon. I hope this is been helpful. Good luck to you. Your feedback is important to me and will help me improve my encounter with future customers.
