What to do about sinus pressure above the eye? I have tried

This answer was rated:

What to do about sinus pressure above the eye? I have tried nasal spray and I do have severe allergies. Everytime I have this I go to the doctor but he just tells me it's my allergies. What else can I do to relieve this pressure. I do take zyrtex for my allergies. I have tried Sudafed at a low dosage every four to six hours, the pharmacist to me that the 12 hour sudafed may keep me up at night.

Doctor DanB : Hello and thanks for your question. Are you available to chat?
Doctor DanB : What is the name of the nasal spray you have been using? For how long and what dosing frequency have you been using it?

I have been using afrin nasal spray four to six times a day for three weeks

Doctor DanB : Okay, unfortunately Afrin, while normally a good spray to use, can cause a rebound congestion and worsening of sinus pressure if used every day. The best regimen to avoid this is to use it three days on and three days off. But since you've been using it several times/day, every day for several weeks, you really are going to need to stop it cold for two-three weeks to get a wash-out of the effect on your sinuses. In the meantime, I would recommend using saline nasal spray two-three times per day, as well as using a sinus wash (you can buy one at any drug store). In addition, you likely would benefit from a nasal steroid spray used daily for several weeks to help reduce the inflammation from the allergies you are having. Does that make sense?
