long ago I know I need glasses but really am afraid of eye drops as it blures your vision to drive back home I would like to know ahead of time so I can make alternate arrangements. Also what is the purpose.

It is not always necessary to get eye drops during an eye exam, but is helpful when looking at the retina. Most likely your eye doctor will recommend the drops to dilate your eyes. The drops last about 4-5 hours. Some people are able to drive after getting dilated, but to be safe, you should bring a driver.
