Customer Question

I am an extremely active 30 year old male and I have been noticing the following symptoms getting worse. Up until about three months ago I could do about 2 hours of exercise a day and lately I am always tired, have lower back fatigue, can't seem to sleep enough, heavy eyes, unexplained weight gain....My workout routine hasn't changed nor have my eating habits and I have put on a good 10 lbs in only 3 weeks. I'm freaking out because I'll have days where I feel like my energy is coming back and then give it a day or two, I'm back to feeling like complete garbage again. Please help

Doctor DanB : Hello and thanks for your question. Do you have any fevers or enlarged lymph nodes?

I didn't subit an eye question, I clicked the medical tab, so hopefully you can help

Doctor DanB : Is your hair brittle, your skin doughy and thick?

No my hair is fine, though my skin has been rather dry...I am however experiencing periods of swelling, especially my thighs and ankles. Fluid retention to the tune of I can fluctuate up to 6 lbs in a day

Doctor DanB : Are you hear or cold intolerant lately?

I have always been sensitive to both. I'm either burning up of feeling like I'm freezing. Being San Francisco, I am intolerant to the cold

Doctor DanB : There are several things which could cause your symptoms, including kidney problems that happen for no known reason, but the two most likely causes, I think, include thyroid problems or mononucleosis. Does that make sense?

what type of physician should I visit to see if it is my kidneys?

or thyroid?

Doctor DanB : I would start with your primary care doctor because they are going to he able to screen for any I'd these problems including kidney problems. If you don't have a doctor I would choose an internal medicine physician who would be the most appropriate person to start this investigation.
