My name is***** am 70 years old, had cataract surgery a year ago. I wear glasses
for correction of astigmitism and far-sightedness (to see close-up). I am a type 1 diabetic using an insulin pump and having good control. Optometrist
says a slight diabetic retinopathy
on my recent exam.
The optometrist told me I just have dry eye
but I am not so sure as I find little to no
relief using lubricant eye drops, I have tried several different ones-Systane, Refresh Optive, and using night-time ointment. I also run a humidifier day and night most of the time.
I have never had problems with dry-eye in the past. This started about 4 months ago and has steadily become worse until by afternoon my eyes feel like they are full of gravel, not scratchy, but heavy, like I cannot keep them open. I can see, but it's like I'm looking through a film. It is difficullt and very uncomfortable to read or work on the computer. I feel like there is some pressure behind my right eye, and it hurts at times. I saw am opthamologist several months ago and he checked for pressure and said there was none.
Any thoughts of what might help or if it might be something other than "dry-eye"
