Dr. Rick :

Hi. I'm online and happy to answer your question today.

Dr. Rick :

What type of infections are you having? Do they seem to recurr?

Customer:

Hi Dr. Rick...I work on washers and dryers...and got a small grain of rust in the right eye , I flush it yesterday but the upper eye lid has swelled.

Dr. Rick :

Rust is can be very toxic to the cornea and, many times, it gets stuck so tightly to the front of the eye that it can't be removed with simple flushing. The only way to resolve this issue, unfortunately, is to have it removed by an ophthalmologist or an optometrist.

Dr. Rick :

There should be an optometrist available this morning. If not, some ER physicians have access to a slit lamp and know how to remove corneal foreign bodies.

Customer:

Thanks Dr. Rick ..is there any eye solutions I can purchase at the pharmacy?

Dr. Rick :

Nothing that will remove the rust. And until that is removed your eye will continue to have problems.

Customer:

Thanks again.

Dr. Rick :

My pleasure. I hope you feel better soon.
