Why do I see yellow spots in my vision similar to having a camera flash in your eyes?

Doctor DanB :

Hello and thanks for your question. I'm here to help you with your question. Are you available to chat?

Customer: Yes
Doctor DanB :

How long have you been seeing these spots? Are they only in one eye?

Customer: About 5 days they started after I had an aura type migraine
Customer: Seems to be in left eye
Doctor DanB :

Does that mean if you cover your left eye, the spots go away?

Customer: It appears to go away yes
Doctor DanB :

Are these spots flashing or twinkling? Do you only see these when you're in a dark environment or when you change lighting environments?

Customer: It appears as a small yellow light much like when someone flashes a camera in your ryes and it is there in dark or light.
Doctor DanB :

But is the light statically on or does it change in intensity or brightness?

Customer: It changes in brightness and in size but different lighting doesn't seem to make a difference,I do think I see it a bit more in darker lighting
Doctor DanB :

How much of your visual field does this spot occupy? 2%? 60%? 10%?

Customer: Between 2 and 10
Doctor DanB :

Do you have any new floating spots, dots, or specs in your vision? Has the overall visual acuity changed any? Are there any curtains/veils/shades/ or shadows in the periphery of your vision?

Customer: No floaters although I have had them from time to time in the past, visual acuity seems normal and no curtains/veils/shades or shadows
Doctor DanB :

This sounds like the after-effect of a migraine, but this is certainly atypical for a migraine. It is possible that this also represents some intraocular inflammation or structural problem with the retina. I would recommend going to see your ophthalmologist to have a complete examination to assess for any inflammation or retinal problems that may be causing this. Unfortunately, your symptoms don't sound particularly specific for any one eye problem.

Customer: Okay, thank you so much, your help is greatly appreciated! One more question,do you ever see this as a symptom of anxiety.
Doctor DanB :

This would be a very unusual symptom from anxiety. I have never seen that type of symptom associated with an anxiety episode or attack. Does this help address your concerns? Do you have any other questions I can help you with?

Customer: One more, thank you,I use imitrex injections for migraines, would this cause the problem or any sinus problem cause it?
Doctor DanB :

I've never heard of Imitrex causing this type of symptom either, but I've learned never to say never in medicine. Also, I don't expect that a sinus problem would cause this particular symptom.

Customer: Okay,thank you Dr.Dan
