Ask an Eye Doctor and Get an Answer ASAP
Hi. I'm online and happy to answer your question today.
Very, very, very, very unlikely. The alcohol kills almost everything on contact, even if it had wiped down the other parts of the slit lamp first.
How can that be when the eye piece was the last to be wiped which probably had very little strength left. My concern is for serious diseases like hiv or hepititis
It would have been more aesthetically pleasing if the tech had wiped down the tonometer first but I believe you will be OK
HIV virus is a real wimp. It dies just thinking about having an alcohol wipe come near it, it doesn't do well on smooth surfaces that dry out quickly
