Welcome to Just Answer

Flashes of light could be due to various causes. The most likely cause could be a posterior vitreous detachment(PVD).

In PVD the thick gel at the back of the eye condenses or detached which causes a slight traction on the retina which in turn causes symptoms of flashes of light. PVD is harmless as long as it does not cause any retinal tear/hole and extend into a retinal datechment.

In future you need to look out for any worsening of symptoms like a sudden curtain like shadow falling in the line of vision which indicates a retinal detachment and requires immediate attention.

Flashes of light are also seen in ocular migraine which may or maynot be associated with headache. The prophylactic treatment is tab.flunarizine 10 mg once at night for 1 month.

A routine check with your ophthalmologist will be helpful for evaluating the exact diagnosis after a thorough eye examination.
